Dear Students, Parents/Guardians, and Staff,

First let me thank you for your understanding while we work to determine what needs to be done and how best to do it. This letter contains information regarding:

Student Meal Program

1. RSU 29 will be providing meals to students in a similar manner that we do in the summer.  Our meal service program will begin on Wednesday, March 18th. Meals will be available to any person 18 years old and younger.  We will be offering lunch and also breakfast for the following day, Monday through Friday, at the following sites:

Houlton High School - 11:00 - 12:00.  Meals can be picked up at the cafeteria entrance.

Houlton Southside School - 11:00 - 12:00.  Meals can be picked up at the back cafeteria door

The Littleton Pit Stop – 11:00 – 11:30

Monticello Town Office – 11:00 – 11:30.

Houlton Band of Maliseet – 11:00 – 11:30  Meals can be picked up at the Rec. Building

Military St. Baptist Church on the Hill – 11:00 – 11:30 Bus will be on the right hand side of parking lot

Houlton Wesleyan Church – 18 Kelleran Street – 11:00 – 11:30 Bus will be in the parking lot

In order to receive a meal at one of these locations, participants should be present at the time of the meal service.  If not present for health and safety reasons, a responsible person can pick up the child(ren) meals. We will not be requiring forms for people to fill out.  Lunch will be served for the day as well as breakfast for the following day.  Meals will be given to participants and they are allowed to eat the meal off site. We will also be providing meals for Saturday and Sunday on Friday.

2. Remote Learning Material:

Houlton Middle/High School: Material is being sent electronically to your children. In addition, for those for whom internet access is not available or other issues with electronic transmission exist; hard copy (paper) materials are available for pick up in the office. Materials will be available for pick up at the main office this Wednesday – Friday (March 18th-20th) from 8:00am – 2:30pm. If you have questions or concerns, please call the middle/high school office.

Periodically, new hard copy material will be available. We will be sure to send out notices through our website (www.rsu29.org) and through our Facebook page.

Houlton Elementary and Houlton Southside School: Paper packets will be available for pick up at the main office of each school this Wednesday, March 18th through Friday, March 20th from 8:00am – 2:30. If you have questions or concerns, please call the school office. The packets contain materials for approximately two weeks. Periodically, new packets will be available. We will be sure to send out notices through our website (www.rsu29.org) and through our Facebook page.

If you have any questions or will be unable to pick up the packets or have someone able to pick it up for you – please call the office of your school and let us know.

3. Miscellaneous:

We ask that your children continue social distancing guidelines. It is counterproductive to a school closure if large groups of students are gathering for play dates or parties. Keep groups small. Continue handwashing. Adhere to travel guidelines. Please. Our community depends on you, too.

This is likely to be very difficult time for us all – our communities, our state, our nation, and our world. Try to demonstrate to your children the little positives of the situation such as enjoying family time at home, game nights, family dinners, and outside time. Give your children some unstructured time –from boredom often springs creativity. Show them how in times of need, we come together to support one another.

Stay safe,

Ellen Halliday

Superintendent of School RSU 29
